With a second-place finish at the womens rugby World Cup, Canada showed it deserved a place among the sports elite teams. Charles Barkley Jersey . Figuring out how to stay there is the next challenge, and it could be a big one. The Canadian womens team received unprecedented exposure during its run to the final of the World Cup, which ended in a tough 21-9 loss to England on Sunday. Canadas games were televised live, and winger Magali Harveys brilliant 100-metre try against France in Canadas semifinal win made highlight reels across the country. But even after such a successful tournament, head coach Francois Ratier said in an interview after the final that its possible the team might be forgotten after what he called its "15 minutes." It remains to be seen how Rugby Canada builds on the historic World Cup performance, the precedent set by the sustained interest in womens soccer after Canadas bronze-medal performance at the London Olympics could serve as a possible model. "I think the fact that it was shown on TV is going to make a huge difference, because women around the world and especially in Canada got to see what we were doing on the field and see what it was all about," Harvey said on a conference call Wednesday. "So Im hoping that its going to promote the sport and push females around Canada to try that sport or any other sport." But as helpful as the exposure is, there are hurdles. Ratier said fundraising for the team was a considerable obstacle and getting fixtures against quality teams is a challenge for Canada, but not European teams. Ratier said Wednesday one of the key challenges facing Canada over the next three years is developing depth. While Canadas roster has star power — Harvey won the IRB womens rugby player of the year award, while captain Kelly Russell, who Ratier calls Canadas best player, was a finalist — heavyweights like New Zealand, England and France have more overall depth and can overcome injuries and fatigue easier. "Its increasing the depth in certain positions, and making sure that when we have an injury we can replace her with a (quality player)," Ratier said. "Its identifying more talent and developing more players in the key positions. This is the key for the next three years." And those players will likely have to incur a substantial cost to participate in the next World Cup. Ratier estimated that Canadian players spent around $10,000 out of their own pockets to attend the World Cup and the preparation tournaments leading up to it. Ratier said its a big commitment "considering we are playing teams that are funded, like New Zealand, England and France. "When you see the French who are paid 120 euros a week when they are away, its not big but at least they can survive," he said. "For us, some of the girls had to resign from their job to go to this World Cup." Money doesnt appear to be an issue for Harvey, who said she doesnt think about the big contracts athletes of her calibre get in mainstream professional sports. "I do it for the love, I do it for the passion, and I do it because I love representing Canada," she said. But representing Canada is not always easy, especially in the three years that follow a World Cup. Ratier after Sundays final that Canada has trouble lining up quality opponents at the same time that France and England are playing in the prestigious Womens Six Nations Championship. There are also some lingering infrastructure issues compared to countries where rugby is considered a top-tier sport for women. Harvey said she was offered little guidance when she first got into rugby in high school, though she added the level of coaching in Canada is improving. "It was pretty scary because there were no coaches who knew how to play rugby so they would just put you on the field and tell you to play," she said. "Now its getting better. Coaches are more informed and teach you more." Robert Covington Jersey . First reported by FOX Sports Ken Rosenthal, its unknown if the impetus for the deferral proposal came from players or management, but it never left the preliminary stages. The D-Backs came into being in 1998 and appear destined to finish second in the AL West after the Tsunami that is the Los Angeles Dodgers swept over them. I thought it might be interesting to see what the D-backs have done over their 16 years compared to what the Blue Jays have done over their past 16 campaigns.MONTREAL -- Taking two weeks off after a devastating loss will be unbearable for Impact defender Heath Pearce. Montreal blew a lead and conceded four first-half goals in a 4-2 defeat to D.C. United on Wednesday at Saputo Stadium. "Its torture," said Pearce, whose team wont play again until the end of the month due to Major League Soccers World Cup break. "Its torture to go two weeks without a game. The good thing about this sport is usually you play every week and you get a chance to correct things. "Weve seen what it takes for us to be good, the tools that we have and what happens when we dont implement them." Pearce and the Impact backline were sloppy on Wednesday, giving D.C.s forwards and midfielders too much space and time with the ball in the final third. On the opener in the sixth minute of play, striker Fabian Espindola tricked Pearce and centre back Wandrille Lefevre with a no-look pass to Luis Silva, who put away his first of the season en route to a first-half hat trick. Espindola caught the Impact ball watching again in the 23rd minute as he sent a seemingly harmless low cross into the box. The pass evaded three Montreal defenders and fell right to Nick DeLeon, who tied the game 2-2 with an easy tap-in. Silva gave the visiting team the 3-2 lead with a breathtaking strike from about 30 yards out in the 39th minute. Unchallenged, and with Montreals back four dropping off, D.C.s attacking midfielder curled a shot just past a diving Troy Perkins fingertips. The 25-year-old, who had gone nine games without a goal prior to Wednesday, completed his hat trick from the penalty spot after Steve Birnbaum being brought down Hassoun Camara. "What do you want me to do?" asked Impact manager Frank Klopas. "Jump on the field and play for them? Im a very competitive person, and this is not the team I want. I want a team thats going to go on the field and compete. I want a group of players that will go out there and leave everything on the field." Klopas said he likely wouldnt shuffle his backline during the break given the string of good performances over the last few weeks. Fresh off its Amway Canadian Championship victory, Montreal came into the match unbeaten att home in its last three games in all competitions and riding consecutive clean sheets. Wilt Chamberlain Jersey. . Klopas men hadnt conceded at Saputo Stadium in 206 minutes. The stretch of positive results after a devastating start to the season made the loss to D.C. United tougher to swallow. "We would be foolish to think that we werent going to have more setbacks along the way," said Pearce. "You dont correct a system overnight. But that result was unacceptable for us. In any league, on any team, you have to have enough guys on any single day having good games. Today we didnt have enough, if any." D.C.s win, the teams seventh in its last 11 games, propelled United (7-4-4) to the top of Eastern Conference standings. At the other end of the table, the Impact (2-7-4) are dead last with only 10 points from 13 games. Jack McInerney and Andres Romero gave their team a chance to take points from Wednesdays encounter, scoring back-to-back goals to give the Impact a 2-1 lead. McInerney found the back of the net in the 12th with a tight-angle shot that grazed the post to goalie Andrew Dykstras left before Romero gave the Impact a short-lived lead in the 21st with a great individual effort. Down 4-2, Impact captain Patrice Bernier had a golden opportunity to ignite a comeback in the 76th minute, but his penalty shot hit the post, went off Dykstras back and trickled out of play. The shot came after Davy Arnaud was called for a hand ball. Pearce tried making the most out of the loss. "As bad as it is, it gives us a chance to really reflect, and each guy to go home and take a look in the mirror individually and think about what we can do better and how we can help the team more, all of us, from A to Z," he said. Notes: This was only the second time Montreal conceded four goals at home in the MLS era. a Justin Mapp missed the game with a groin injury. a Three Montreal supporters were expelled from Saputo Stadium during the second half for igniting flares in the stands. The same three individuals were reprimanded last week for a similar incident. a The Impact signed Spanish midfielder Gorka Larrea prior to the game on Wednesday. Larrea has played for La Ligas Levante and Real Sociedad. Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Wholesale NFL Jerseys Jerseys From China Wholesale NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys ' ' '
